5 out of 5 stars Best at keeping baby swaddled   November 9, 2008
K. Roberts (Columbia, MD)
I was never very good at getting the blanket to say on as a swaddle. My baby is something of an escape artist even when I did it right. The swaddle me is easy to fasten and hard for him to wiggle out of. (It is possible, just hard)It can keep him swaddled the whole night like a blanket never could. Great product.

4 out of 5 stars Saving my sanity at night   October 23, 2008
Navy Mom (San Diego, CA)
Our 5-month-old son was kicking out of his swaddle after just a week or so, so we didn't think he liked being swaddled, but he also kept startling himself awake every 15 minutes or so--the sleep deprivation was excruciating. So, we looked into swaddling him again and saw this one recommended. I actually was going to get the Miracle Blanket, because I had seen negative reviews about this one, but my local store had more of these available, and they are soooooo much less expensive, so we tried one. A MIRACLE! The first night we swaddled him, he slept 9 hours. I almost cried, I was so relieved. It has been consistent good night's sleeps since then, although we have some caveats: there is an earlier posting that gave us a heads-up about the different fabrics having different qualities, and it's worth paying attention to. We got the cotton knit blanket because they definitely cause baby to heat up (being wrapped so tightly), plus we live in a mild climate. He sleeps in just a diaper, in a cotton knit swaddle. The main issue with the cotton knit ones is that they STRETCH after just a few "wearings." Babies being babies, however, they also urp a lot, so we wind up washing the blankets every few days. After being dried in a dryer, they tighten back up again for the next few wearings. So, buy several, and rotate them out. For those who have commented that their babies escape, they aren't wrapping them tightly enough (probably those stretched-out cotton knit ones). You have to wrap them TIGHTLY--not so that bones are crunching, but not with room for arms to move around, either (arms go down by their sides). Another trick, if you haven't "shrunk" yours lately and you're desperate to get the kid swaddled and quiet, is to criss-cross the velcro tabs as you do your final "button-down." If the bottom tab gets stretched up toward the top, and the top tab gets stretched toward the bottom, it helps take up that slack. As baby grows and fills them out a bit more, the slackness problem goes away. We've recently moved from the small size to the large size, right as our son was hitting the 15-pound mark. The small ones are definitely too small at this stage (perhaps they truly, literally, shrank after all those dryings?). The large ones are now a bit roomy on him, so we're definitely back at the stage where we need to "shrink" them down every few days. Also, don't worry too much about the length. In both sizes, his legs on our long, long boy have always had to be bent to fit into the bottom part of the sack. That's fine, though--babies sleep in those splayed-out froggy positions, bent-knee, anyway. And we routinely see him give a good stretch to his legs when he's waking up--the fabric gives nicely. If he's at all sleepy, the instant he gets "burrito-wrapped," he passes out. He's five months and still being swaddled; I just hope he grows out of his restlessness before he grows out of the large-sized blanket. Folks can try the other fabrics that are less stretchy, but I'd recommend them only if the bedroom is kept quite chilly. Also, the velcro tabs are quick to use, and easier to adjust than a regular blanket when baby is kicking and flailing. There is no way we could keep our guy in a regular blanket; he'd destroy it in an instant. Bottom line: the stretching is a moderate annoyance, but the concept, and the overall product, is nothing less than a miracle, and it has saved my health and our household's collective sanity.

My baby stays put! The velcro actually holds my very wiggly baby! He sleeps better at night.

5 out of 5 stars Swaddler works wonders!   July 9, 2008

Our Jake loves his new larger swaddlers. At 5 months and 17 lbs he still sleeps best when swaddled and we love the lightweight, washable, stretchy fabric!

5 out of 5 stars Love these blankets!   May 8, 2008

I buy these for all my friends expecting. These blankets got my husband and I through the early tough days and nights of raising twins. Pair it with the DVD Happiest Baby on the Block and your set! We loved the small sizes so much we went online and bought the large sized ones. Green cocoa dot is my favorite pattern--so soft and stretchy.
