Product Description Inspired by the ever-popular Blue Man Group, these tabletop percussion tubes play drums and other instruments in a full octave range. New motion-sensor technology allows for quiet operation and smooth control. Sound can be heard through internal speakers, headphones, or an external amplifier (not included). Percussion tubes are MP3-compatible, meaning you can create music on top of your favorite MP3 tracks. Includes Blue Man Percussion Tubes, two drumsticks and earphones. Requires 4 "AA" batteries (included). Colors may vary.
Amazon.com Product Description Everyone loves music. Whether making up lyrics to a favorite tune, drumming the steering wheel while driving, or playing air guitar along with the video, you know you love music. But the Blue Man Group wants you to take that love one step further: they want you to create music. And this set of percussion tubes inspired by their live stage show is just the device you need to get started. This compact box (just shy of two feet by one foot) consists of eight PVC tubes that emit an invisible beam. By simply waving the included sticks, or even your hands, above the tubes, you break that beam and create a unique sound. Now imagine the variety of amazing tunes that you can make by breaking the beams at different intervals, from various distances, at changing speeds, and so on. The eight tubes reflect the sounds of the cymbal, snare, electric snare, conga, ride cymbal, hi-hat, hi-timbale, and bass drum. | | Wave sticks over tube openings to create fun, unique sounds. | While that might sound like enough to keep you occupied, the musical versatility doesn't stop there. This magical kit provides even more interactive ways to make music with 10 pre-programmed songs, a speed drum setting that adjusts tempo, plus five instrument sounds to choose from: Blue Man tubes, drums, steel drums, xylophone, and marimba. You can also insert your iPod or other MP3 player into the loading dock to mix, fade, layer, or just play along with your favorite songs. High-quality, built-in speakers and volume control let others hear your musical wanderings straight from the tubes, or you can use the audio out jack and run the system through your stereo or TV. If the hour is late or baby is sleeping, you can plug the included earphones into the headphone jack and entertain yourself without disturbing those around you. There's even a way to record your jam sessions and then play them back and a spot to plug in a microphone (not included) should you want to explore your vocal talents, too. When the concert is over, a storage tube keeps the wave sticks ready for the next time. Four AA batteries are required, but not included.

Loved it but it died May 25, 2008 booklover lisa 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
My 5-year-old loved this toy but it has completely died. Sad because he thought it was great fun. E-mails to the customer service listed in the manual bounce and it's way too expensive to buy a replacement. We did also have a huge laugh because it was near impossible to remove from the packaging. Directions were INSIDE the box when we finally got it open (no joke, it took at least 30 minutes, a phillips screwdriver and lots of patience).
Great concept, poor workmanship, sensors don't work at all January 15, 2008 Abraham Lincoln (USA) 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
This toy is a great concept, and the ipod connection is a great idea. The "speakers" on top of the device are fake, there is just one speaker on the bottom of the unit. The sensors, the things that make the drum noises, didn't work at all. This was a gift from a somewhat distant relative, so we can't really ask for the receipt. And anyway, the packaging really got torn apart, being as it requires a surgeon, an engineer, and an auto mechanic to get at it. Fresh batteries did not help. Everything works except for the main component of the toy, the sensors. What a piece of garbage. My son was so disappointed. Blue Man Group should be sad to see their brand tarnished by this junk that not even they could fashion into an instrument. **Update: finally got it exchanged, and it is fun for a few minutes, kids don't play with it much. I guess they got tired of looking at it when it didn't work. Big hassel. Bad product. Company reps on phone not helpful at all.

Tubes for Percussionist January 12, 2008 Lance Moore (San Francisco Bay Area) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
The packaging on this product is crazy; you don't find out you have to undo the bottom screws until you already have the package open somehow. ;-) Besides that, this is a lot of fun, with lots of different ways to use/be creative with it. I got it for an adult who is getting into percussion, not a kid, and he seemed really intrigued (we've seen the Blue Man Group).
Loved it! January 3, 2008 K. Beck (Midwest USA) 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
My eight-year-old son received this as a Christmas gift. He spent a considerable amount of time playing with it upon opening it and quite often since then. The item was ready to go--no assembly, although the box was a little tricky to open. He ultimately took it with him to "jam" with his twenty-four-year-old cousin and had a blast. He has been to two BMG shows and was thrilled to receive this gift. While not intended for professional musicians--it is a TOY--it has been ideal for his use. I highly recommend it for the fun factor and as a creative outlet.
