We all know from watching years of "American Idol" auditions that there are plenty of people out there who think they qualify as the next big music star. Now is there chance to step into the spotlight (at least of their living room) and prove their mettle. The American Idol Talent Challenge game lets all ages sing along with the performances on past Idol shows, be judged by their peers, and then hear actual comments from Randy Jackson and Paula Abdul based on the score.  | | The vocal mixer lets you sing along with the included DVD or another DVD of your choice. | The game consists of a vocal mixer unit that you plug directly into your TV, a DVD with 12 songs performed by American Idol finalists, and one microphone. There are multiple ways to sing along: first you choose the song, then you choose whether or not you want the lyrics to scroll Karaoke-style across the screen or not, then you decide if you want the Idol contestant to sing along with you or if you'd prefer to go solo. You even get to choose your "stage" setting -- backgrounds include fireworks, cityscapes, stages, and more -- and the mixer allows you have your voice treated with cool sound effects. Once you've sung (and danced) your heart out, your audience has a chance to cast their vote on your performance. By pressing the numbers 1 (lowest) through 9 (highest) on the DVD player's remote control, they'll determine your overall score and the comments that Randy and Paula give. I purchased this product last Christmas for my daughter and within hours it's fun was exhausted because of the limited songs and things that you can do with it.
I sent it back immediately and this year I purchased a regular karaoke machine for birthday last Sept it was a far better choice. My kids are 7 and 10 and both love to use the karaoke machine and even I like to get on it once in a while.

This product is one of the worst games I have ever played. It was difficult to hook up to the TV because you have to have it run through your dvd player. The back of my dvd player is not all that easy to reach. The song choices are very few and it only had a portion of the songs to sing. It was not even a complete song. After playing it with my 9 year old daughter we packed it up and shipped it back. Don't waste your $. Even if you are a big Idol fan like my family, you will be very disappointed.

This product is a total waste of money. The songs are abbeviated versions of the American Idol performances, not the complete songs themselves. As a result, they're impossible to sing to, and cut off before they reach the end. My daughter is a huge American Idol fan, and loves to sing . . . and she absolutely hates this toy. Avoid it at all costs.

Product works as described. The only complaint I have is that if you choose to sing along with one of the contestants they do not sing the entire song, just a few seconds of it. It would be nice if they sang the entire song. I have not yet seen if it's any different if you sing without a contestant. This was a Christmas gift for my 9 year old daughter. I bought it at half the normal price, so for that price it was worth it. Had I paid full price I would have been disappointed. It would also be nice if it was easier to find the other cd's that go with it. I'm having trouble finding those.

This thing is a HUGE piece of JUNK! It only plays part of the songs and they start in the middle of the song... so you have absolutely no idea what is going on! NOT GOOD FOR KIDS AT ALL! i will be returning it!
